I recently asked a question to the Reddit Environemtal careers community:
Environmental professionals. What issue are you noticing in the field right now?
I’m curious what people are observing in their region right now.
For those working or studying in environmental fields:
• What environmental change have you noticed recently in your region
• What issue has become more visible in your work or studies
• What environmental topic keeps coming up in conversations with colleagues
There is a small environmental discussions where people talk about observations like these and how they connect to policy, field work, and environmental careers.
This Sunday at 6 PM EST F.I.E.L.D.s is hosting an open Zoom discussion for anyone interested in continuing the conversation.
If you want to join, comment or send me a message and I will send the Zoom link.
The zoom session turned out great! Biweekly meeting!
The Nordstrom BEAUTYCYCLE program impacts people by providing a convenient, free, and brand-agnostic way to recycle hard-to-recycle beauty packaging, helping consumers reduce waste and move toward a more sustainable, “zero-waste” beauty routine. Sad fact: The United States generates about 120 billion units of beauty packaging per year. Most units consist of mixed materials which standard recycling programs reject (Zero Waste Week, 2020).
Let’s answer a poll
How many of you actually think Nordstrom is really sorting through the waste within the “Beauty Cycle” containers?
- yes they are
- no they are not

This was a pleasant surprise (I say sarcastically). Large paint buckets and a rusty propane tank thrown behind a residential apartment complex area. Who is that lazy or disrespectful that they had to go out their way to find a place behind a fence off the road to throw it there? Wow!
